A Christian’s Take On Bird Box, A Post-Apocalyptic Movie

A little background

As a child, I was plagued with end time scenarios in my head. The day would be any normal day and all of a sudden, I would think about the end of the world. I used to be crippled by it. You could only imagine what that does to a little girl. This “fascination” followed me into my adult life and since my encounter with Jesus Christ in 2001, days shortly after the Twin Towers came down- I lived in NYC back then and experienced a post-apocalyptic scenario just hours later when the streets that used to be full of people resembled to that of a ghost town. End time thoughts are still scary but the gravity of it has diminished simply because I know without a shadow of a doubt where I am headed when this decaying shell we call a human body meets its expiration date.

My husband and I are far from being doomsday date setters à la Harold Camping, the most recent one (2011). If you are a Christian, you know prophecies about Jesus’ first coming came true. The same can be expected of His Second coming and in it He outlines events that will take place in Matthew 24, Luke 21, Mark 13. If He says He will come back, He means it. Thinking otherwise could only mean one thing. You are calling God a liar.

It may seem like I am promoting this movie. I am not. If you are into the post-apocalyptic genre, you might find this interesting and curious if some other Christian who watched the movie have similar thoughts.

Now to Bird Box…

This is a Hollywood production rendering the apocalypse. It will normally be accompanied with subliminal messages.

I have never read nor heard about the book where this Netflix movie was adapted from. My apologies if you have not seen it and I am ruining it for you but the beginning starts with a scene on TV which showed people going crazy and killing themselves in Europe and Russia. The main character Malorie (Sandra Bullock) thought she was isolated from these occurrences as her sister tries to talk some sense into her. Shortly after Malorie went for a prenatal check-up, she saw this woman bashing her head against the glass window and that was her rude awakening.

This world is going backwards and everything that is good is now evil and evil good. The people who can see what is really happening in our world today are deemed crazy and called conspiracy theorists. This would include Christians who are forewarned by God in the flesh of what is to happen nearing His return about the cataclysmic events to come.

Towards the middle of the movie, the survivors with 2 pregnant women (including Malorie), took in a man who was “afflicted.”  He was coherent at first until the day of Malorie’s labor where it manifested that the man they recently took in fooled them and his intent was to open the windows to let the light shine into the house. They had the windows shuttered so they would be safe from what’s happening outside. The man, by opening the blinds ended up causing the death of the other pregnant woman who happened to also have given birth, threw herself out the window. Another character also dies as the man forcefully opened her eyes to see the light while stabbing her.

It is not surprising that Hollywood, which chiefly profits from promoting evil through its lewd, gruesome and violent portrayals has a trend of making Christians look bad. The people whose eyes were wide open appeared to see visions and were taken over by a “spirit” before going crazy and killing themselves. While Malorie was on the river with the children, she encounters a “Truther” who told her to take her blindfold off and things got ugly from there. Just before he sinks into the water, he uttered, “It shall cleanse the world!”

Born Again Christians have the Holy Spirit. To an unbelieving world, they malign what they don’t know (like Joy Behar mocking VP Mike Pence on hearing from Jesus). It appeared to be an “evil” entity in the movie but going back to the world is going backwards, Hollywood’s agenda is the antithesis of everything that is Christian.

The lesson I got out of the story is only those who deliberately choose to put their blindfolds live on. It is no coincidence the main character and the children, a boy and a girl find refuge at a school for the literally blind (“Blind leading the blind“), in this case, blindfolded. What better way to learn from those who are truly robbed of sight!

You have to shut out reality in order to keep living. In other words, stay in the matrix.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Conclusion: Bird Box is a post-apocalyptic movie that subliminally tells people to dismiss those who talk about the End Times/Truthers.

To the seeker: Truth is reality. Light is good and being in the dark is bad, always have been, and always will. The world would have you think otherwise.

“Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

“And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil.”

John 3:19

“If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

John 8:31b-32

  1. I had never heard of this movie.
But I enjoyed your post ❤️ So true! Everything you shared!!!

    1. It is a new release on Netflix. You’re not missing much but the propaganda. It doesn’t talk about Christians specifically except for this black guy who was studying end times. His character ended up sacrificing his life so his friends won’t get hurt. However, it is interesting the “woke” people are crazy while the blind are safe.

      1. Yes! Very interesting!!

  2. Just finished watching it. Your review resonates sharply with mine.

  3. […] is another one of Netflix’s blatant propaganda like Messiah, Bird Box and The Silence. My family has unsubscribed from Netflix in late 2019. Having seen only the preview […]
