A Reformed Observation

While not all people who identify as holding to Reformed theology are woke, this happens to be a trending common thread with well-known Reformed pastors like Al Mohler, David Platt and Matt Chandler who are riding the woke train. Another Reformed pastor, John Piper, holds to a sugarcoated version of Replacement theology which ultimately ties with the Woke agenda of BDS (Pro Palestine) and BLM.

This old article from John Piper (makes me think of Pied Piper) lays out his reasoning that Christians should not pick sides when it comes to Israel. I added the red brackets if you want to jump right to it.

For those who have problems reading the direct article on smaller screens, the quote below are the same paragraphs in red brackets from above.

“First, a non-covenant-keeping people does not have a divine right to hold the land of promise. Both the blessed status of the people and the privileged right to the land are conditional on Israel’s keeping the covenant God made with her. Thus God said to Israel, “If you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples” (Exodus 19:5). Israel has no warrant to a present experience of divine privilege when she is not keeping covenant with God.

More than once Israel was denied the experience of her divine right to the land when she broke covenant with God. For example, when Israel languished in captivity in Babylon, Daniel prayed, “O Lord . . .we have sinned and done wrong . . . To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us open shame . . . to all Israel . . . in all the lands to which you have driven them, because of the treachery that they have committed against you” (Daniel 9:4-7; see Psalm 78:54-61). Israel has no divine right to be in the land of promise when she is breaking the covenant of promise.

This does not mean that other nations have the right to molest her. She still has human rights among nations when she has no divine right. Nations that gloated over her divine discipline were punished by God (Isaiah 10:5-13).

Secondly, Israel as a whole today rejects her Messiah, Jesus Christ, God’s Son. This is the ultimate act of covenant-breaking with God. God promised that to Israel “a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6-7). But with tears this Prince of Peace looked out over Jerusalem and said, “Would that you . . . had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. . . . You did not know the time of your visitation” (Luke 19:42-44).”

 — John Piper

Even the United Nations side with the Palestinians. Anyone who sides with the world goes against God (James 4:4). As a Christian, the only choice would be to side with God. Do not be fooled by the semantics of Piper’s closing because his seeming neutrality on the matter will end up in favor of the antizionist movement. The world conspires against Israel because it is God’s chosen possession.

For the Lord has chosen Zion,
    he has desired it for his dwelling, saying,
14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever;
    here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.”

Psalm 132:13-14 NIV

It doesn’t stop here. God promised this to the Jewish people (the non-covenant-keeping and covenant-keeping alike),

“Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. 23 I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.

24 “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.

Ezekiel 36:24-28 NIV

Any professing Christian who is woke (a compromiser) and anti-Israel is clearly not being led by the Holy Spirit, but is led by none other than the god of this world. The megachurches are operated by wolves. Beware!
