Our most recent destination was Canby, OR. We decided to go to a sheep farm named SuDan Farm, named after its owners Dan and Susie. Susie was gracious and very hospitable to show us around. The most memorable part of the trip was seeing firsthand how little lambs run to their caretaker. It was truly heartwarming to witness. It enlivened the picture of how as sheep, we must always run to and follow the true shepherd, Jesus Christ.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.“
John 10:11-16
I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. – Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers (John 10:5). Those who are acquainted with Scripture will be able to detect falsehood when they read or hear it. Some people coat their erroneous teachings with truth to lure true believers, but will introduce their strange doctrine in a covert manner.
And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. – This is where we Gentiles come in. We are the sheep that “are not of this fold” which ties to Galatians 3:28, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
