Bad Breath Is The Least Of Our Worries

“…but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.”

On my way to the grocery store, I heard someone on the radio talking about garlic breath and breath fresheners.

We know no amount of Altoids and Tic Tacs can remedy the evils of a filthy mouth. No amount of physical fix can remedy a spiritual problem deeply rooted in a person’s heart.

We can also apply the same concept with Schizophrenia. In Jesus’ time, it was commonly known as demonic oppression. No amount of over the counter medication can treat a far more serious problem, a spiritual problem. On the contrary, it only exacerbates the problem creating a dependency on pharmaceuticals rather than a dependency on God for deliverance.

But what can we expect? We live in a godless society where popping pills seem to be the solution to our problems.

Before I digress even further, I need to go back to the evils of the tongue.

I read blogs and at the risk of sounding legalistic, I must say some professing Christians need to understand what Jesus meant when He said for His followers to be the Salt of the earth.

What is an indicator of genuine salvation? An undeniable difference in how we conduct ourselves whether by actions or speech from that of the world.

“The good man brings good things out of the good treasure of his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil treasure of his heart. For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.”
Luke 6:45

When we talk dirty, we’re no different from the world. Not only that, we grieve the Holy Spirit.

God called us out of the world. We must act in consistency with our calling.

The damage of a foul mouth far outweighs the trauma of smelling someone’s bad breath. At least they can fix the problem with something they buy over the counter.

Now, if it were only that simple to get a new heart…
