Before KonMari (Marie Kondo) even came into the scene, choosing things that ‘spark’ joy has been an ancient practice. In the Christian walk, we are advised to find joy even during times where it is most elusive.

“Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

James 1:2-4

This is not to say we pretend to be joyful when everything hurts from the deepest emotional wound down to a throbbing headache to the point of nausea. While there are a lot of things that happen to try to rob our joy and the Joy of the Lord, it’s always a choice.

This sunflower plant especially brought joy to my daughter and I today. We love the fact that as the wind hits it, its three heads peek through the kitchen’s screen door almost as if to say hello.  We also watched the hummingbird visitor together. It stayed longer today- almost a minute in one sipping! It really took multiple sips, but in just one feeding visit.

I hope that you can find joy even in the most inconsequential things. It’s there. You just have to recognize it.
