There’s nothing more vexing than the contentious assertions of people who claim they know God’s character especially coming from those who are confused of His existence and those who claim He is merely a figment of our imagination. It is true that God needs no defending but our role as His ambassadors is to ascertain that He is not misunderstood.
Quid est veritas? (John 18:38)
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
Do you believe this? If you claim to be a Christian, either you wholeheartedly accept this revelation, or you don’t. Your Christianity hinges on your yes or no answer to this question. If your answer is no, then you clearly don’t know God even if you think you do.
God is Love. (1 John 4:16)
Do you believe this? I’m sure unbelievers have heard this Biblical expression. If your answer is yes, then that means you believe any seeming malevolence that God sovereignly allows ultimately produces a result that ends up being turned for good, having full knowledge and taking into account all the detours and mistakes that we humans make which are evil in His sight. He has no evil in Him period (Psalm 5:4) and this revelation came from David, an actual historical figure, one whom God considers to be a man after His own heart (1 Samuel 13:14).
People need to understand that with God’s infinite wisdom, what appears like an end to us (like death for instance, whether literal or figurative) is just the beginning of something new – a new outlook on things, a beginning of a relationship with God Himself that you never would have considered had you not reached to the end of yourself. He is that kind of God, such who makes purpose for that which is considered to be broken and beyond repair, the God of infinite possibilities.
How can one who doesn’t know God be qualified to possibly judge His character? Common sense tells us that if one knows someone intimately, they can describe a person more accurately than anyone who does not personally know them. I thought unbelievers even held to the truth in the adage that goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” They judge the character of God, taking bits and pieces of events in the Bible that they spin out of context to justify an erroneous belief as to who He is and these same people don’t even believe what’s written in it from cover to cover. Isn’t that silly?
They say, why should we let one book govern our lives? This book they so wrongly judge happens to be the best-selling book of all time and continues to be. Guinness World Records states, “Although it is impossible to obtain exact figures, there is little doubt that the Bible is the world’s best-selling and most widely distributed book.” Notice the phrase, “little doubt.” It indicates anyone who asserts otherwise do not have a solid claim and stands at the likelihood of being proven wrong than being right.
My question to these people is why let one lie govern their lives? Here’s the kicker. This lie happens to be written in a book as well. Aren’t they as guilty of being governed by what’s in a book?
It gets quite old hearing the same assertions that there’s no evidence for God because they themselves cannot back up their own claims that He doesn’t exist. It simply gets sillier when they start attacking someone they claim to not even be there at all. It’s not only beauty that is held in the eye of the beholder; in this case, so is intellect. But what can you do? It’s more “trendy” to be an Atheist than believe in God nowadays.
