Gone are the days of routine and structure in my household, at least temporarily. Everyday is literally Saturday. My family used to eat dinner at 4:45 PM, watch CBS news at 6:30 and just do whatever after that. We have been blessed with a time of quiet strengthening and family togetherness in these times of economic duress. I honestly don’t know if I am using the expression appropriately but to me it seems and sounds right.
So, here’s our new usual. We sleep late, we eat breakfast for lunch and lunch for dinner, and sometimes, even breakfast for dinner. We watch movies, all thanks to the affordable dollar rentals from Redbox, and the accessibility to some not-so-old movie releases and TV series on Netflix. I am thankful to God that he has given me a family. How we take things for granted when we are immersed in the redefinition of societal norms and the busyness that makes us forget about the more important things in life.
I must admit that my family is one of the millions affected by the souring of the economy. I can only hope that people will discover the source of our lifeline, and that is none other than faith in a God who provides us not only with what we need, but also with peace that surpasses all understanding in these times of economic unrest. God’s word, the Holy Bible is full of promises to endure times of hardship and when you take the initiative to open it and truly let God speak through its verses, you will experience the lulling of fears raging from within.
Think about the people who have committed suicide because of financial uncertainties. It is truly a sad thing to think there is no hope. If you put your faith in Jesus Christ and His promises, you get endless hope, and not a hopeless end. If you happen to be under any sort of strain lately, take up Jesus Christ’s invitation;
Matthew 11:28-30
28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
