I don’t have much to say today. You can liken this post as a flashback in a movie. This is the view on the opposite side of the bookshelf from Saturday’s post.
At the fish market sometime last year (I meant to say 2019). For some strange reason, I forgot we’re already in 2021.
These things taste good fried. They get trapped in the net and they end up on our plate. Such is their lot. One amazing biblical account that has to do with fish is the one about the temple tax.
“After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”
25 “Yes, he does,” he replied.
When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own children or from others?”
26 “From others,” Peter answered.
“Then the children are exempt,” Jesus said to him. 27 “But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”
Matthew 17:24-27
The takeaway? His provision comes from all over the place. With God, nothing is impossible. The passage also shows us that as followers of Christ, it is our duty to submit to the authorities that God has ordained whether we like it or not. Even Jesus subjected Himself to the authorities.
Sauteed or battered, these taste good. The weather has been really sucky to even go out. The next best thing to do is travel back in time.
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.”
Psalm 62:5-8
I wish I could eat prawns, and shrimp! Love all kinds of fish though, although they are kind of expensive in the desert! Wish I could move to a place by the ocean!
Submitting to the authorities sure does save us some headaches, and quite possibly does give us an audience to whom we can preach the Gospel.
Most of us would really like the idea of being in an island escape right now considering what’s ahead…

God uses all things to work for His glory. If submitting to God’s will of having His people go through something severe can mold people unto Christlikeness, then so be it.
