Holding To The Promise Of Eternity

Some people have misconceptions about Christianity as an easy way out, “Get saved and live like a hedonist.” Nothing could be further from the truth. I also hear disagreements within the body of Christ that it is erroneous to believe in “Once Saved, Always Saved” and the same can be said about this one as well.

As I continue my walk on the road less traveled – the narrow road, I find it is one of the hardest things I have encountered in my life; to go against my propensities. But thank God, I don’t do it all on my own. I trip and fall, too much to even remember, but I need to remind myself it is the Holy Spirit that empowers me to press on. The minute I try doing it all on my own, I easily become what I despise.

Knowing full well that I have genuinely surrendered my own will to follow God’s (everyone else can question this but this is truly just between God and the believer), when I falter, does that mean I lose my salvation? On the contrary. I am living in a body that wants to go in two opposite directions as the apostle Paul says in Romans 7:22-23,

“For in my inner being I delight in God’s Law. But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me.”

Defeat is a fact of life but as I resolve to cooperate with the Holy Spirit, I live and press on my walk with my salvation intact, the promise of eternal life, a gift irrevocable from Yahweh who never lies.

As long as you desire to persevere in your walk mindful that it is not dependent on your own efforts but in fact God’s empowerment, you don’t have to examine yourself. It is the Holy Spirit Himself that spurs and convicts you, “Get back on your feet. Your walk is not over.”

“For I am confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will continue to perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
