In The Thick Of It

I’ve heard people say Christianity is an easy way out. Yes and no. Accepting Jesus Christ sounds like a very easy thing to do, something similar to what the prophet Elisha told Naaman, the Syrian army commander. Dipping seven times in the Jordan to be healed of leprosy sounded like nonsense to him that he had come up with what he thought was better than what he was told. There was only one thing required of him to get healed and it was to simply obey (2 Kings 5:1-19).

There is only one thing we have to do to be free from the bondage of sin- to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. What looks like a simple thing to do is actually going to be the hardest. This is when we pull a Naaman.

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

Romans 8:1-4

This kind of freedom is available to all, but you will never know what it’s like unless you make the choice to stop being just an onlooker.

“Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

John 8:34-36
