Lessons From Yesterday

These pictures were all taken yesterday.

If it weren’t for yesterday, I would not have these for today.

This is a Red-winged blackbird. Its color is an indicator of it being male. This was taken during our picnic.

This California Scrub-Jay was taken in another city not too far away. While yesterday seemed to be a good day, it isn’t always that way. All of us have experienced pain and trauma from our yesterdays and while the whole world advocates canceling the trauma and bad memories of days gone by, it is the same pain and trauma where we learn most of our life lessons that steer the course of our tomorrow. Most believers have encountered Jesus Christ in their lowest point and it would be counterintuitive to scrub off a testimony just because it bears painful memories.

As we can see in this biblical account, ignorance of yesterday breeds the oppression of today and tomorrow.

“Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. ⁹ And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. ¹⁰ Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, otherwise they will multiply, and in the event of war, they will also join those who hate us, and fight against us and depart from the land.” ¹¹ So they appointed taskmasters over them to oppress them with hard labor.”

Exodus 1:8-11

Ignorance of history has dire consequences. The king of Egypt had no regard that his country survived the famine because of God’s favor on Joseph, an Israelite.

People have forgotten that the Jewish people were nearly wiped out less than 100 years ago.  The whole world (via the UN) is so busy conspiring against a piece of land that is promised by God to His chosen people (Genesis 15:12-21).

“I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. ³ On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.”

Zechariah 12:2-3

Why? Because that is the very land where Jesus Christ will reign on earth at the appointed time.

“For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, ‘BLESSED IS THE ONE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!’”

Matthew 23:39

The enemy will stop at nothing to thwart God’s plan and while he is still the ruler of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4), his time is running short.
