Love & Loyalty

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:36-40 NIV

We can keep the greatest commandment by staying faithful to Jesus Christ. We can strive to love our neighbor as ourselves. This is where we all struggle. Whoever said denying the self was going to be a piece of cake? It certainly is no easy task. Apart from the Holy Spirit in a believer, this is an impossibility for every human being (John 15:5, Psalm 16:2).

When you enter into a covenant relationship with someone, vows are made to be there for each other during sickness and health and for better or for worse. Many suffer from broken marriages and broken homes because people choose the easy way out. How fortunate we are as believers that Jesus stays faithful to us even in our failings. Love has everything to do with loyalty.

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have,

because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;
    never will I forsake you.”

So we say with confidence,

“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?”

Hebrews 13:4-6 NIV

The best thing a believer can do to love their neighbor is to warn them to stay faithful to Jesus no matter what happens.

It’s coming…

Stay faithful to Jesus.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6 NIV
