Sunday Funday II

“And He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. And He said to the man who had the withered hand, “Step forward.” Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent. And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.”

Mark 3:1-6 NKJV

Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” – The dilemma in this day and age is the redefinition of what is good. Obviously, we live in a time where killing babies is celebrated and everything is practically a construct. The Pharisees, the ones with the plank in their eyes asked this question with every intent to trap Jesus. Do you see how religious but unregenerate people always have an ulterior motive?

Whatever it is a Christian does on a Sunday, when it is with every intent to do God’s work/will of setting captives free in a spiritual sense would not be in violation to God’s command on keeping the Sabbath day holy. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12) and every believer is tasked to carry on His work (John 14:12).

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

The Day of the Lord

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”

2 Peter 3:9-10 NKJV

To answer Jesus’ question in Mark 3:4,

Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

James 4:17 NKJV
