Longer days are a delight. My family took our dinner and a board game to the park yesterday and we were welcomed by this little guy. It stayed with us for about 10 minutes. After having its fill, it left us for awhile to run to a distant tree. There were plenty of squirrels running to and fro but this happened to be the only gutsy one that came to us and having done so, it was fed.
My husband was curious if it would come and take the food from his hand. The squirrel was hesitating to get too close but it was close enough that my husband just ended up tossing the food by his feet because he knew that was the squirrel’s limit of closeness. This furry little friend knew that my husband was an entirely different creature and that it cannot act the same way as it acts around its own kind. Consequently, the squirrel showed fear, yet it knew that hanging around us meant we were going to keep feeding it. We all enjoyed having it around and were even amazed at the fact that no other squirrel dared to come but this one.
We weren’t keeping track of time but it was probably close to 30-40 minutes later that it came back to us. We were still at the same spot playing the board game. We didn’t have any food left to give but it is an awesome depiction that shows us that when we know God’s character, believers can boldly go to Him in prayer and make our requests. He encourages us to be persistent too (Luke 18:1-8)! Doing so reveals our dependence on Him and is pleasing to the Father.
Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”

Still thinking about God and that squirrel experience!!
Yeah. We’re like that squirrel in a way. God sees where our faith is and works with us (that part where my husband wanted to know if it will come much closer). The squirrel’s hesitation is symbolic of Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” What was interesting about that particular squirrel was that it had fear, yet boldly came back expectant of being fed again. Knowing God and His character, we go to Him and keep going to Him for provision and for our spiritual needs (for wisdom and understanding).
