Prior to my encounter with Jesus Christ, I’ve had my share of dealing with manipulative and toxic people being in a codependent relationship. It was a very very miserable time in my life but it became an integral part in reaching the end of myself and finding Jesus. There are a lot of telltale signs with duplicitous people. They are sycophantic in nature and they can never admit to their flaws and whenever they do, they often do it in a way to gain sympathy so you can fall into their endless cycle of control. I refuse to be controlled by those who deal treacherously because I’ve been there before and it’s miserable.

If you happen to be dealing with a toxic person, there is a way out. Saying YES to God is having to say no to people. If the toxic person happens to be you, you’ve probably heard this a thousand times but it’s true that Jesus can help you. If you enable a liar, they will always keep doing it and I refuse to be entangled in a web of lies and lies happen to be Satan’s native language (John 8:44). It is a heavy burden that is avoidable and lastly, I love the freedom of walking in the truth. This road is a difficult and painful walk, but I’d rather walk the difficult road than go against God.

I Know Someone

You have built yourself a fine fortress
And you’re the only one who holds the key
You’ve resolved to pilot your own ship
And you decide what all the rules will be

No more asking for answers
No more cries for help
You’ve been hurt for the last time
That’s what you tell yourself

I don’t know much more than that
But I know Someone who does
I was not there in your past
But I know Someone who was
I can’t heal what lies within
But I know Someone who can
I know Someone who can

It’s a drag, living life like this
Believe me, I’ve been there a thousand times
Spending every day on the defense
And building walls no one could ever climb
Till somebody showed me my fortress was a cage
He granted me my freedom
Since then I haven’t been the same

I don’t know much more than that
But I know Someone who does
I was not there in your past
But I know Someone who was
I can’t heal what lies within
Oh no
I can’t fully understand
But I know Someone…

So you can lock me out
Of your life as you’ve designed it
But I know there’s peace and I’ll be on my knees
Until the day you find it, yeah, yeah

I can’t fully understand
Oh no…

I don’t know much more than that
But I know Someone who does
I was not there in your past
But I know Someone who was
I can’t heal what lies within, oh no
I can’t fully understand
But I know Someone who can
I know Someone who can
I know Someone, I know Someone
