The Raw Human Condition

A deal breaker in a friendship for me is when one likes to gossip a lot. I can’t stand that in a so-called friend. If we were to take a survey right now, undoubtedly it will come out to have 100% that nobody likes a gossip. If they can talk bad about other people to you, well, it would be erroneous for one to assume they won’t talk bad about you to someone else. It’s hard to find someone you truly have a deep connection with and not just superficial ones where you can’t get past the small talk.

I’ve heard people say the Bible is not sufficient to guide us in how we ought to live our lives in these modern times, a statement uttered in ignorance. The Book of Proverbs is replete with timeless maxims we all could learn from. We can hear a constant regurgitation of the above statement by people who profess not to believe in God, but even more alarming is hearing it from people who claim to be Christian but do not consider the book to be authoritative. There are also people who claim Sola Scriptura but say that reading the Bible unaided is not recommendable which invalidates their very claim.

22
The words of a gossip are like choice morsels;
they go down to the inmost parts.
23
Like a coating of silver dross on earthenware
are fervent lips with an evil heart.
24
Enemies disguise themselves with their lips,
but in their hearts they harbor deceit.
25
Though their speech is charming, do not believe them,
for seven abominations fill their hearts.
26
Their malice may be concealed by deception,
but their wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
27
Whoever digs a pit will fall into it;
if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.
28
A lying tongue hates those it hurts,
and a flattering mouth works ruin.

Proverbs 26:22-28

And if you’re wondering what the seven abominations are that is being referred in verse 25, it can be found below.

16
There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19
a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

Proverbs 6:16-19

Does the Bible not hold absolute truth? That is for you to decide.

  1. I’ve definitely learned that gossip can lead to a lot of problems, both in a relationship and with others as well.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree and nothing good ever comes out of it.

Nice to hear from you. Hope you have fully recovered. Please give my regards to Sherry. Believe it or not, I miss her straight up presence in WP.

  2. Hey there Co-Elly…. Yeah here at my Job at the Campground…about 80% of my co-workers gossip….including every single one that works next to me…..it sucks so bad…..but the good thing is I am learning to tell them nothing personal. They go about it all day and worse even the ones who seem to be Christian do it to. it has caused me to partially hate this job.

    1. Guess who the cat dragged in! How ya been olive branch?

“I am learning to tell them nothing personal.”

Wise. Very wise. Visit us here sometime 🙂
I think you’ll love it here.

  3. Hi Caeli! I’ve enjoyed reading your works. You have a sense of authority in your writing which is very refreshing!
Isn’t it funny how those who claim to be Christians can completely disregard the teachings of the Bible? Like you mentioned in your latest post, Jesus quoted the scriptures and that’s because it contains HIS truths that guide and comfort us. He called us to love our neighbors and we love ourselves, so it is definitely sad to see when we are tearing each other up with hurtful words. Great post!

    1. Thank You Celina for your encouraging words. My authority comes from His life-giving words, and God is so good to have you encourage me today.

If warning people about a danger they are not aware of warrants rejection, so be it. That is how I love my neighbor.

      1. That’s awesome! Keep it up <3

      2. Thank You Celina 🙂
