“Two things I ask of you, Lord;
    do not refuse me before I die:
Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
    give me neither poverty nor riches,
    but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
    and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or I may become poor and steal,
    and so dishonor the name of my God.

Proverbs 30:7-9 NIV

When I was a single mother, someone had the audacity to try to set me up to marry a Chinese dentist. She probably thought she was doing me a favor because of my situation. Arranged marriages and marriage of convenience are pretty common in Asian countries (not just in Asian countries really, but even prevalent in Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice), but her motives and drives were nowhere close to mine. Everyone in this world needs money to survive, but there is a certain class who actually go out of their way to acquire it to the point of losing their soul for it.

There are people who may be rich enough to own most of the world, but none of that money can extend a set expiration date (Think Steve Jobs). It is even more sad when someone has all the money, but feels completely empty. Investments can easily vanish in this volatile world. We can look down on people who have nothing, but it is harder for people who were born rich and all of a sudden lose everything, than for those who were born with nothing.

“Better the poor whose walk is blameless than the rich whose ways are perverse.”

Proverbs 28:6 NIV

The rich (backers of this administration) are currently setting up the poor to get entangled with drugs by making crack pipes and syringes easily accessible, getting people hooked to it even more which will inevitably lead to their demise, all in the guise of serving the “oppressed” African American and LGBTQ+ communities. This looks more like a death by chocolate kind of scenario. In an inverse universe (Isaiah 5:20), this is not surprising.

I told my husband in the car not too long ago that even when things get hard and since we’re still in this world, we really can’t avoid hardship be it emotional, financial and health issues, (even some rich people worry about having their money stolen from them like those who own cartels), there’s nothing more a wife can ask for than a faithful husband. People can pay people to lie for them about being called an author or whatever it is one desires to be known for, all for the pursuit of fame and mammon, some even buy followers on Instagram, but integrity is something no amount of money can buy.

“The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters,
    but one who has insight draws them out.

6 Many claim to have unfailing love,
    but a faithful person who can find?”

Proverbs 20:5-6 NIV
