Descent | From up high to the dirt

“But if a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked person does, will they live? None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness they are guilty of and because of the sins they have committed, they will die.”

Ezekiel 18:24

None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered – This is most specially true for apostates (2 Peter 2:17-22). The stigma of hypocrisy will overtake one’s righteous deeds when a professing believer falls from grace, especially those who are in leadership position. Jerry Falwell Jr., Ravi Zacharias come to mind and every pastor/speaker who exchanged the truth of Scripture to become friends with the world (Rachel Held Evans). For us laypeople, we drag God’s name and our testimony to those in our sphere of influence would be rendered useless.

If you have truly given your life to Jesus Christ, your salvation is secure. However, we will reap swift judgment and in some severe cases, physical death when we continue to abuse God’s grace. God is merciful, but He cannot be mocked.

Ascent | From a dark place to light

But if a wicked person turns away from the wickedness they have committed and does what is just and right, they will save their life. 28 Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.

Ezekiel 18:27-28

But if a wicked person turns away from the wickedness they have committed and does what is just and right, they will save their life – This pretty much describes all of us who have come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. He saved us so that we may be eager to do His will (Titus 2:11-14).

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

John 5:24
