liberal: open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values ergo accepting of “broad” even unbiblical views
Christianity: following a “narrow” path, that of Jesus Christ (John 14:6)
To anyone who claims to be a liberal Christian, have you read the part in Scripture where Jesus says, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters–yes, even their own life–such a person cannot be my disciple” in Luke 14:26?
Before you totally misconstrue this, He is not advocating “hatred” here. He is speaking figuratively that if your allegiance is divided, plain and simple, you ARE NOT His follower. Uh Uh. Narrow path. It’s not broad, not “liberal.” Your journey to the truth is hindered when you keep lying to yourself by trying to reconcile what is truly incompatible. This right here is called compromising Christianity. The fact you can easily disassociate yourself with Christianity is because you aren’t one. Your profession is nothing but empty words.
Liberal Christianity is perfectly summed up in the verse below,
“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.“
James 4:4
Friendship with the world – this is embracing the world’s philosophies (Colossians 2:8) and attitudes (Romans 12:2) which conflict with your claim to Christianity.
Am I spewing words of hate? I suppose in this relativistic world I could be. I know hate is definitely the last thing on my mind. Do I care? Of course but God did not wire me to be politically correct and I thank Him for that. True hatred is when you deny someone the truth. Sadly, the definition of love in this day and age is just the exact opposite – say nothing to avoid hurting someone’s feelings.
Let’s say a person with HIV sleeps with someone without disclosing they can infect them with the disease. Do you think that’s loving?
Let’s say your friend is dating someone whom you know full well is a cheater and an abuser. Would you not warn your friend out of concern?
Let’s say you’re an ex-junkie and you know full well the effects of what a certain drug does to your body, would you not warn someone not to use it?
Let’s say you knew of someone’s plot to kill innocent children at some school, would you not alert the local authorities?
Would it be the loving thing to affirm behaviors you know that go against God’s standard of righteousness especially from those who publicly profess to know Him?
Would it be the loving thing to do to brush it off and say nothing?
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”
1 Corinthians 13:6 NIV
If your definition of love has nothing to do with truth, you are NOT a Christian.
Do I hate you? Nope. You can see me as hating you and that’s fine.
I do need you to know one thing though… I love you enough to tell you the truth even when I know you’d hate/crucify me for it.
