“if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— 9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.”

the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. – When a world comes to a point where wickedness overruns righteousness, the last resort becomes inevitable. It would be more than foolish to trust that justice can be served by people who easily rationalize their unrighteous means in order to achieve their nefarious agenda.
Out of the entire population during the time of Noah, only eight people were spared. In Lot’s time, the account details that wickedness was so pervasive not even his family’s righteous conduct could turn the town from being destroyed (Genesis 18:20-33). The last resort was for his family to flee and be removed so that wickedness would receive its due.
“For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.
20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
