“Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, ⁵ and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.

To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, ⁶ and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Revelation 1:4b-6

“Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. ¹⁹ For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.”

Romans 5:18-19

the free gift came to all men – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.“ John 3:16

Although the gift is free, receiving/accepting which declares ownership is necessary before anyone can employ the full benefits that come with it. We do not have the full rights on things we borrow since it can be taken from us. Acts 19:13-16 gives us clarity on this,

“Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” ¹⁴ Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so.¹⁵ And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” ¹⁶ Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded”

“We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” – They attempted to cast out demons without themselves having the authority present in a Spirit-filled believer. They did so to their own peril.

The gift comes with a seal of authenticity,

“who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”

2 Corinthians 1:22
