Wasted Energy

As you drive through the streets in Salem, you would find a lot of shoes up on the wire. It’s hard to ignore especially when they’re all over the place. Do you know how deliberately planned it is to get that pair up there? Imagine, they had to wait until no one was around and possibly sling it countless of times to get it the way they want it to hang. The question is, why would people waste a good pair of shoes?

This, the one on top and the one below it were all taken within a 3-mile radius yesterday. There were really more but three is enough.

This was taken by the train tracks. The person must have felt really accomplished to see their clogs hanging on a more complicated set of wire.

This one was taken by the bridge at Spring time just months after we first moved here (2017). How could I possibly forget this pair? I took a picture of my mother when she came to visit my family and I remember seeing the pair of shoes behind her head. It served as a photobomb.

“And now what do I have here?” declares the LORD.

For my people have been taken away for nothing,
    and those who rule them mock,”
declares the LORD.
“And all day long
    my name is constantly blasphemed.
Therefore my people will know my name;
    therefore in that day they will know
that it is I who foretold it.
    Yes, it is I.

How beautiful on the mountains
    are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
    who bring good tidings,
    who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
    “Your God reigns!

Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices;
    together they shout for joy.
When the LORD returns to Zion,
    they will see it with their own eyes.
Burst into songs of joy together,
    you ruins of Jerusalem,
for the LORD has comforted his people,
    he has redeemed Jerusalem.
10 The LORD will lay bare his holy arm
    in the sight of all the nations,
and all the ends of the earth will see
    the salvation of our God.

Isaiah 52:5-10

In the lateness of the hour, what are you spending your energies on? You might think things are starting to go back to normal, but reality is this world is transitioning to a new normal. They want you to believe it will be beautiful, but a world governed without God will be the farthest thing from utopia. While you have time, start looking up. Obviously, as you can see here, you won’t see the shoes (Ephesians 6:15) hanging above you unless you look up.

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6

As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:11-13
