Always Learning Never Understanding

A lot of us probably only think of Peter’s “immortalized” example when it comes to denying Jesus. I wonder if Peter in heaven still keeps asking Jesus why his moment of weakness had to be exposed generations upon generations after the deed, but God’s purpose was not to embarrass Peter but to show all people that everything can be forgiven, everything, when one comes to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and repent.

The fact is, Peter’s example is just one of the various ways we deny the One who bought us at a price (1 Corinthians 6:20). When God gives us the opportunity to tell someone about Him and speak truth and we shy away from doing it, probably the only time they would ever hear it in this day and age, we deny the light of Christ to shine through us (Matthew 5:16).

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.“

Proverbs 9:10

Do you believe this? If you do, Great! The moment you encounter any “Christian” who tells you to shy away from your duty to convey truth, know that that person has a lack of the fear of the Lord. They fear the backlash from men instead. To claim to have wisdom and act in total defeat to the dictates of the world only exposes their lack thereof.

Be wary of those who outwardly appear to be sheep (as in wolves in sheep’s clothing) who cower to the demands of this world.

Evil in the Last Days

But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good, 4 traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these!

6 They are the kind who worm their way into households and captivate vulnerable women weighed down with sins and led astray by various passions, 7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.

8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and disqualified from the faith. 9 But they will not advance much further. For just like Jannes and Jambres, their folly will be plain to everyone.

2 Timothy 3:1-9

Any “Christian” who does this have denied Christ and Truth to be proclaimed. No matter how learned a person may appear, the measure of one’s true knowledge always goes back to their application of the fear of the Lord. Fear of the Lord is plainly having nothing to do with and not making excuses for what God considers as evil (Proverbs 8:13).

“Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.”

1 Thessalonians 5:21-22
