Autumn To Do List: 1 Down, 3 To Go

I saw this beanie from ASOS and thought that it would be much better if I made it myself rather than buy it. I went and bought the materials at Joann’s and Michael’s and several coupons later, I got my materials down to less than 8 bucks which included 2 skeins of yarn and 1 circular needle. Luckily, I already owned a tapestry needle for weaving, I really don’t remember buying it, and I substituted the stitch markers with the small rubber bands that I use for Chloe’s hair. How’s that for improvisation?

I haven’t been blogging for days now because I have been so busy knitting the hat. Can you believe that? Of course, I didn’t knit every hour by the hour but I took sooooooooooooooo long to finish this particular beanie because it is my very first time knitting in the round (using a circular knitting needle). I have made hats before in less than 2 hours with the regular knitting sticks but haven’t considered circular knitting until recently. I suppose I wanted the challenge. Aside from being a “virgin” circular knitter, I am also new to the seed stitch pattern which I found was quite easy once you get the hang of alternating and I had to really pay attention to the alternation of the knit and purl stitch.

I had this picture on my Autumn is here entry but felt the need to move it here for the comparison to my handmade version.

Red Heart Super Saver in Buff and Vanna’s Choice in Rust with a Size 10 circular needle I used for my project. It is made with rib stitch brim and seed stitch for the rest. I casted on 80 stitches since I used a large needle.

Et Voilà ! My model with the finished product. This is an adult sized hat… and I know, I’m bad for letting her wear my wig with the hat 😛

All in all, I am very content with the results. I tried to replicate the hat as much as I could but my version has a smaller pompom and different weight of yarn. It took me a good few days to finish this as I had to unravel it a whole bunch of times because of mistakes but it was well worth it.

I am still battling which To Do item I want to accomplish next…
