Beauty In Haze

The Fog

For 2015’s last hurrah, my family decided to go on a Chinese food binge which we so regretted when we came home. All the bad carbs and oodles of protein saturated in monosodium glutamate (Ajinomoto) left my husband and I completely depleted of the will to stay up to usher the New Year with joie de vivre with the children.

Yes, my realist side desires to write even the ugly details of the mundane. I resorted sleeping through the last moments of 2015 as a palliative for my discomfort due to my intentional gluttony. I thought I would wake up all cheery and all better only to awaken at 5 am with a splitting headache, one that felt as nasty as a hangover, only, mine was caused by caffeine withdrawal since I didn’t drink coffee yesterday. Really, quelle horreur!

I decided to start the New Year by taking down the Christmas tree and chatted with my family. We woke the children around 5 as well to greet them a Happy New Year.

I peered through the window at first light and saw the beautiful fog enveloping the lake and lo and behold, my silver lining. I couldn’t help but think the fog just gives such an ethereal effect to the scenery I see every single day of my life, one that I have taken for granted.

I don’t need anything grand to define amazing. Like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder.
As long as one takes the time to appreciate a moment, an instance, a state of being, it’s more than enough.

Happy New Year!
