Eternal Solace

“Mommy, why is it that when I took the medicine, I’m just getting worse?” My daughter asked me this the other day. She caught a cold but God has been so good in blessing us with good health. When my family first moved to Oregon, both my children got really sick with a cold which lasted much longer than expected since we came from the Sunshine State. It was getting accustomed to a cold place that got the best of them. I told her that the medicine she took was working to expunge what was making her sick.

This entire week had been a bumpy week. Though the days went by like hours, I’m being brought back to a time in my life where when I listen to a song, it just moves me to tears. The more I try to stop it, the more it flows. My heart is heavy. It’s heavy because it has to go through a process. I don’t understand it, but it’s there. I took a deep breath hoping it would go away. It did when I paid no mind to it. I listened to a sermon.

There will come a day when He will wipe away every teardrop. There will be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain. No more pain… Isn’t this what humanity wants? No more destruction, no more hate and no more sin (Revelation 21:3-4). This corrupt flesh causes us so much grief. The world thinks this promise is nothing but a fairy tale, but as believers, this is what we look forward to – to be free from all of this.

I learned a lot this week. I got a lot more work to do. But I am not alone. Good intentions don’t always end up with good results, but God knows my heart and I rest in His mercy and forgiveness. He desires to extend pardon more than punishment. Submission is not the end of yourself. It’s a new chapter of a never-ending book (Eternal life). You get to pick the ending. I choose the happy ending.

He’s coming soon. Not too long now. But first, the medicine, the purging medicine. Everything will get worse before it gets better.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
