It’s never too early to learn biblical principles and as a matter of fact, Scripture encourages teaching kids the ways of God at a young age and Girl Talk by Lois Walfrid Johnson is such an invaluable tool for a budding God girl. It is a collation of short stories good for a whole year of weekly devotion, on average about 2 pages per story from young girls and their life experiences along with their life lessons with a highlighted Bible verse preceding each story and daily follow up questions for your young one to work on, almost like doing a personal mini bible study.
The “Let’s Pray About It” part which concludes the week’s devotional encourages the young reader to further reflect on the scenarios and practice living out her faith through prayer. I especially like the prayers incorporating Scriptures on some of them. Aside from that, it is a great exercise for one to get into journaling. This is not a journal but it may as well be dubbed as a mini spiritual journal of some sort since it has pages for one to write on. I am actually considering to use this as a writing workbook for my daughter this school year who happens to be in 3rd grade. She already reads her personal bible with my husband (she reads from both the NIV and NIRV) and this will be a great mother and daughter supplementary activity to delve into spiritual growth.
This book is in paperback and since it’s geared towards young readers, like any other paperback, it will not hold up well unless handled with care i.e. not being slept on which creases the pages and would recommend the use of a bookmark instead of putting dog ears. The pages have cute bird designs in grayscale which is visually appealing even for an adult. Overall, I like the interactive format of this book from the short stories and life lesson comprehension via daily reflection through the writing exercises/prompts. It is such a wonderful idea and would definitely recommend this to parents who are active and committed in developing their daughter’s walk with the Lord.

“It’s never too early to learn biblical principles and as a matter of fact, Scripture encourages teaching kids the ways of God at a young age” brings to mind 2 Timothy 3:15 which says, “From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”
That’s the best investment that a parent can do for their child, to teach them the scriptures.
