The Fight Against The Flesh

As you all know from yesterday’s entry, I was feeling out of sorts. I woke up this morning determined to go to church for my volunteer work. I took a shower really early and had to do some things around the house. After I got out of the shower, I was feeling quite bloated. I have no idea why. It was giving me a great deal of discomfort and sensation of carrying a 10 lb weight on my upper abdominal area. I’ve been pregnant a couple of times and it is nothing of the sort. This was one of the reasons why I wanted to cancel my service today aside from another serious reason which is too confidential to mention.

I went back to the bedroom to tell my husband that we should pray about the bloating that I have, to go away in order for us to go to church and the bloating did go away. Yes, I tell you, even the quickest sincere prayer works! But that was just phase 1 of what I thought to be the enemy’s tactic to thwart my entire family from going to church today and most especially for me that I was needed at the church’s nursery. Phase 2, another thing came up which really solidified my decision of calling in to cancel. I made the call with the clear intent of canceling but I could not get myself to do in. Instead, I told them that I would be a few minutes late.

I love going to church to hear the Lord’s personal message for us every Sunday. I also wouldn’t have volunteered for the baby ministry if I didn’t want to although there is a good story behind this as well. I don’t know what it was today that it seemed like my flesh was just kicking and screaming to do God’s will. I admit it was quite a battle for me today because of some unforeseen circumstances and maybe even probably there was a battle waged between angels and demons in the spiritual realm. My spirit was willing, but this morning, it was particularly weak, although I am proud to say that through God’s help, I was able to overcome and the minute we started driving away from home to church, the struggle dwindled.

We are oblivious of the battle that goes on in the spiritual realm. Imagine if God made it that we would actually see the demons that cause us to stumble and the angels that come to our aid when it comes to doing His will.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 6:10-12

In our own strength, I would assume (I’m thinking for myself) witnessing something of that nature would cause us to lose heart but as a Christian, we should glory in the fact that God has given us the promise that He would never leave us and forsake us and that it is God who upholds us most especially in our time of weakness, to give us the strength to press on and continue the good fight.
