The Good Book

October 2019

It’s cold outside. Needless to say, but I’m going to say it anyway, it’s another gray day. My mind wanders off to bright and good days with my mother. It’s already been over a year. The view overlooking the pier with the coconut tree by the bookshelf was the only place where there was good internet connection. Though it’s hot and humid out there, the sea breeze makes up for it. I spent thirteen years of my life in the tropics. Dark days always come and God designed the human mind to remember. This is the purpose of good memories.

Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The LORD works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.

Psalm 103:1-6

We have to remember that the LORD is our avenger. No other man can do this. Believing otherwise is setting up another messiah in our minds.

The LORD will indeed vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants when He sees that their strength is gone and no one is left–slave or free.”

Deuteronomy 32:36 HCSB

Only the Good Book endures forever

Meanwhile to my own bookshelf… To the right are books I owned when I was a single mother. I actually own a book dubbed The Loner’s Manifesto. I can’t remember much of its contents (it’s been close to 20 years), but it pretty much says a lot without me having to say much. I had friends but I’m pretty much used to being alone. The books to the left are books I acquired during my married life. I do not have a collection of books written by intellectuals. It is interesting to know about how they think, but I like finding out in the end that given time, people end up arriving to the same conclusion, though expressed in a less eloquent way. The Good Book is situated in the middle and today’s passage at BibleGateway pretty much implores us to remember to get our priorities in order,

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Matthew 6:19-21

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also…

Do you treasure the things of this world or the things of God?

I’m not much into beating around the bush. Things are going to get really bumpy and it’s time to look up.

“And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.”

Acts 2:21 NKJV

  1. […] I don’t have much to say today. You can liken this post as a flashback in a movie. This is the view on the opposite side of the bookshelf from Saturday’s post. […]
