Today’s Glory, Gone Tomorrow

I can’t remember whether it was me or my husband who put the garlic in the fridge. When we go food shopping, we take turns putting stuff into their respective places. The garlic evidently sat there for months since I have been storing the rest elsewhere for easy access.

Saw that it was starting to grow. After all, it was stored in the humidity controlled compartment. I simply couldn’t toss it away. It was something that grew where I least expected it. And so, this accidental charm became our dinner table’s centerpiece towards the end of last year. I don’t know how long I can keep it there. It’s already been trimmed a couple of times. The kids are especially loving the fact it started to grow inside the fridge!

The family very much appreciated the beauty of this plant while it lasted. We always hear the saying “Nothing lasts forever.” While all of humanity know this to be true, we defy the order of things and we forget.

“Lord, make me to know my end,
And what is the measure of my days,
That I may know how frail I am.
⁵ Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths,
And my age is as nothing before You;
Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah”
