Familiar with the sales pitch “Trix are for kids” in the 90’s? In this case, magic tricks whether by occultic means or a sleight of hand are not for those who claim to be God’s children who have been adopted into the kingdom. First things first. There is a universal misconception that we are all God’s children.
Are we really all God’s children? Pope Francis once mentioned that if aliens were to come to earth, he would baptize them. John 1:12 clearly defines for us who truly are God’s children,
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name”
This is only a quick mention. My focus though is not on the “green men” perceived to be from outer space that Pope Francis referred to, but on the other kind of green men, simply human beings who claim to be Christians, but associate their Christianity with green dollar signs. It is interesting people associate the color green with envy and also with money.
Simon the Sorcerer
Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.” 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. 12 But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.
14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. 15 When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money 19 and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
20 Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”
24 Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”
25 After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.
Acts 8:9-25
Simon the sorcerer was amazed at the miracles that the apostles were able to do through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit (verse 13). Verse 18-19 shows us that he coveted what the apostles had.
“When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money 19 and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
He had a grave misconception that the power which comes from above can be acquired through money and he was immediately rebuked by Peter.
False prophets only think of profits.
I’ve heard of Todd White before and sad to say that I have recently read about the guy from my feed. Someone is promoting the man’s fraudulent miracles in the name of Jesus. He could miraculously make a person taller, but it’s really just loosening someone’s sneakers off the ball of their feet. If you are duped by this man, you have a serious problem.
Todd White’s spiritual mentor happens to be Kenneth Copeland who claims to have power over C0VID and controlling the weather. At the mention of Kenneth Copeland, everybody already knows that we’re dealing with a for profit only false prophet. If you happen to be reading from people who promote Todd White, Kenneth Copeland or any people from the NAR Movement, RUN!!!
Counterfeits may deceive even the elect for a time until their false prophecies fall to the ground. Some sweep their false utterances under the rug like nothing happened and move on with business as usual, even Pat Robertson claimed that God told him Mitt Romney would win the presidency in 2012 and we all know that didn’t happen.
We are living in the age of the charismatic showmen and their lying wonders. There is such a thing as dangers from false believers (2 Corinthians 11:26). These people do not care for your spiritual well-being. They only care about how they can make a profit from you and since now is their time to shine (2 Timothy 3:13), we must all the more be discerning.
“On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’“
