They grow on the roadside and in the wild. Some notice their existence and some pass them without a care in the world. They may even be considered unwanted but God created them for a purpose. During the appointed time, the wild plants yield fruit and will be harvested by the one whom God sends.
“Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.”
John 4:9
To the seeker: God hears even three word prayers, “Jesus, Save me.” You are not an outcast. You lived your life that way because the harvest (your appointed time for salvation) was not yet. If you happen to be one who used to not care about the things of God and currently find yourself seeking to know about Him because of what you notice the whole world is now experiencing, it means you are becoming ripe for the good news. You find yourself more receptive to the things of God because your spirit is responding to the wooing of the Holy Spirit.
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
John 6:44
“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.”
John 6:37
“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
John 4:23-24
To the laborers:
“And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”
John 4:36-38
We may all be going through things at this time and even so, our deeds and misdeeds without words being spoken become a living testimony, which could reap a good harvest (John 4:39-42) or cause a spoil. If you claim to be a Christian and are struggling with an issue that drags the name of Jesus to the ground, consider the kind of impact you are making to the cause of Christ.
“Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’?
I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”
John 4:35
The blackberries seem so good to eat, for these are God’s creation.
