Warning Signs

As my family walked through the trail yesterday, we passed through a few of these all over the place. I wasn’t expecting to see a drowning hazard sign in this slough.

The water is not quite inviting and there would probably be leeches galore and yet, drowning signs exist because people decide to jump in anyway. Something could be right in front of us and we fail to see it until God opens our spiritual eyes (2 Kings 6:16-17).

I wrote a short detail in an old post about a near-drowning experience on undertow signs when I was a little girl,

Speaking of trumpets, as believers, we’re supposed to sound the trumpets of the Lord’s soon return. No one forces people to believe. Consider it simply as a sign that warns of a dangerous and strong undertow. As a little girl, I was caught in one and almost drowned. I don’t remember having read any warning signs. It’s interesting hardly anyone considers Undertow signs offensive. People easily accept its validity even though they haven’t gone in the water. You have the choice to either heed it or ignore it. It’s the same concept when it comes to salvation. You can’t say you haven’t been warned, but you are taking a gamble with the most precious aspect of yourself, your soul.

When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. 9 But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so, they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved.

Ezekiel 33:8-9 NIV

This warning task is not just for a chosen few. Jesus gave us many warnings in Scripture (Matthew 7:15, Matthew 7:20, Matthew 24:23-25, Matthew 18:8-9 etc). It’s not popular, but if we are to be Christlike, this would be a start. He did not save you so you could just keep it to yourself (Matthew 5:13-16, Matthew 28:19). We are to warn people so that they do not have to spend eternity in torment. If you think being in isolation is bad, imagine being in isolation from all things good forever.
