In this world you will have trouble.

John 16:33b

There’s no escaping unpleasant situations. They come and go, but sometimes, they linger much longer than we want them to. In the very same verse, Jesus gives us the reason why we have Scripture in our possession.

Its ratite relative the Ostrich can kick a lion.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.”

John 16:33a

For a follower of Christ, we live by His Word, the recorded teachings of our Savior. There are many who claim to be His followers and many who challenge the authority of Scripture. It is written that only those who abide by the full revelation of His written word are truly His disciples (John 8:31, John 14:21). While God is merciful to all, only the true followers have the promise of His abiding peace — so that in me you may have peace. You cannot be “in Him” if you doubt His word, which reveals everything we need to know about Him.

To those who doubt, the passage below would be worth meditating on,

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

James 1:6-8

Resolve to trust in His Word.

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

Romans 15:4

“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”

Isaiah 40:8

Unpleasant situations do come and go, just like the grass that is here today and gone tomorrow. His word endures forever and it’s the same one that promises us that through the Holy Spirit, we can overcome ALL obstacles (Philippians 4:13).

“But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”

Matthew 4:4

Do you believe in the promises contained in His Word? If you are truly His follower, your very life depends on it.
