Lamb For The Bunny

It is no question Easter is a major holiday not just for Christians but mostly for retailers who may not be Christians. I barely see anything about the resurrection of Jesus Christ on any of the merchandise. We don’t see cross molded candies and chocolates. It’s all about bunnies and eggs. I don’t advocate for candy crosses but the point is like Christmas, Easter’s meaning has been hijacked by folklore.

“If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.”

1 Corinthians 15:13-17

This is the importance of what we Christians celebrate today. Because Christ rose from the dead, we only die once and we are saved from a second death (Revelation 20:14-15), unlike those who reject Jesus. This is our blessed hope. All people are afraid of death whether they care to admit it or not but as one accepts Christ’s atoning death, death’s sting loses its potency as God in the flesh came and promised those who belong to Him the resurrection in John 6:40, “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”  We will have a glorified body (1 Corinthians 15:52-53), one that will know no sin and will reign in His presence for eternity.

“But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.”

1 Corinthians 15:20-22

This to me is the significance of Easter no bunny tale will ever substitute.
