“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

The one talent man who had a misconception of his master’s character acted in fear and squandered the opportunity to make the most of what he was given.
Apart from an intimate relationship, it is often expected people make the error of misjudging someone. This is why it is not prudent for a person who has decided to believe in God to take seriously a nonbeliever’s gripe about a “tyrannical” God who makes demands that are impossible to meet.
“Samuel said, “Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.”
1 Samuel 15:12
How can people obey a God whom they do not know and what He delights in?
“This is what the Lord says:
“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom
or the strong boast of their strength
or the rich boast of their riches,
24 but let the one who boasts boast about this:
that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.”
