“Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

Matthew 4:8-9

“But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.”

James 3:14-15

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”

1 Timothy 6:10

Have you been propositioned with an offer that is too good to be true?

While all good things come from God, consider that Eve was given the proposition by the devil with the possibility of being like God (Genesis 3:1-5). Eve falling for it shows us the lofty ambition that was deep-seated in her heart.  In the same way, the enemy can entice us with promises of an abundant life in the here and now without suffering through his Prosperity Gospel ministers.

The enemy can offer us everything we could possibly desire in this world, but he always leaves out talking about the consequences after taking the offer.

“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”

Matthew 16:26
