Sometime in January, we were visited by two Mormon missionaries. They happened to be in their early twenties. They sacrificially went about knocking door to door just hours before the cold front hit. I did not invite them in. However, we had a little exchange by the door. It was interesting to note that at the very beginning of the conversation, they actually mentioned John 14:6 and Ephesians 2:8-9. The Mormon youth and Mormons in general may believe those verses on the surface, but their Mormon giveaway book gives away the true nature of their religion.
One thing to point out about this religion is that it exalts Joseph Smith. John the Baptist said about Jesus in John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” This is clearly not the case when the Mormons decrease the true Word of God by referring you to read “Another Testament” as their book clearly says. For this, within the pages of Scripture, we are warned,
“But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”
Galatians 1:8-9 NKJV
Here’s a snapshot of a page from their book which has Jesus’ teachings mixed in there which is why they ask you to read the Book of Mormon rather than a straight up testimony of Jesus from Scripture. If you happen to be a Mormon or know one, the implication below is quite heavy for those who degrade and or reject the authority of Scripture.
“If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
1 John 5:9-12 NKJV
I won’t pretend to know a lot about Mormonism, but based on their missionaries’ answers as to the whereabouts of their archaelogical evidence of their golden plates, this religion has overwhelming evidence that it is what’s mentioned on the passage below which I was led to entreat them to read whenever they had the chance right before they left,
“For a time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers 4and they will turn aside to fables.”
2 Timothy 4:3-4 NKJV
Should any Mormon missionaries knock on your door, don’t shut the door on them. Jesus expects you to share the truth with them and that’s why His sovereignty led them to come to you.
